2023 in Review
2023 got off to a great start with the annual children's hunt taking place once again at Lough Fea on 2nd January. As can be seen from the small selection of photographs below, a great time was had by all who attended with many adults taking the opportunity to walk off some of the Christmas excesses.

Louth Hunt Ball, Saturday 21st January, Darver Castle
As ever, Pony Club members were well represented at a sell out Louth Hunt Ball where everybody put on their glad rags and danced into the early hours. The unanimous view was that it was a terrific night's entertainment with everybody planning to buy their tickets early for next year's event.

Tetrathlon Target Shooting Training, March 2023.

LHPC Spring League Final, 19th March, Piperstown.

Annual Easter Egg Hunt, Piperstown Equestrian Centre, 10th April

Annual Mini Camp, Sulmar Farm, 10th to 14th July - a celebration of our younger members and the highlight of the year for the club. As usual, plenty of older club members were on hand throughout to assist with leading ponies, platting ponies, tacking up, and just about anything else that our younger members might need help with.

Area 7 show jumping competition hosted by Cavan Pony Club at Kernan Equestrian Centre in Lurgan on 15th July. While heavy downpours were the order of the day, that didn't stop the competitors (with the largest contingent coming from Louth) from enjoying themselves.

The Irish Pony Club National Festival Championship took place in Barnadown on 27th and 28th July. Louth were represented in the Alice Mernagh team show jumping competition by Emily Callaghan, Mia McGrane, Tess Moonan and Russell Boyd while being represented by Kate Russell, Jessica Cumiskey, Sophie Boyd and Dara Ellie Winters in the Robbie Bailey team show jumping. Both teams put in terrific performances on the day and did Louth Pony Club proud.

Louth Pony Club was well represented once again in the Dublin Horse show where the skills of some of our most talented riders were in evidence with Tiernan McGuiness coming second in the lead reign class, Hannah Fenelon putting in a great performance in the 153 Open Working Hunter Ponies, Elizabeth McMahon winning the 148 cm 6 & 7 year old ponies, Moya Teeling being placed in the Connemara Working Hunter and Aoife Keogh competing in the Connemara Show Class.

Area 7 qualifiers for the IPC national Classic show jumping competition were held in the national equestrian centre in Dublin on 6th August. Louth were really well represented in the 1m class with Emma Winters coming first, followed very closely by Kate Russell in second place and Dara Ellie Winters in 4th place. Billy Winters subsequently qualified in the 1.10 m class on 22nd August in Ballinasloe. Great performances all round.

The IPC Annual Dressage Day was held once again in Spruce Lodge on 17th August where Louth Pony Club were out in force, ably represented by the very tallented Imogen Moonan, Winnie Gunn, Elsa McGrane and Ruby Collins. Imogen, Winnie and Elsa were all well placed in their respective classes with Elsa just missing out on the rosettes. A great performance by everybody, doing the club proud.

The 2023 IPC National Tetrathlon Championships took place in Killossery Lodge Equestrian Centre at which Louth Pony Club were represented by Dara Ellie Winters, Emma Winters and Billy Winters who all put in sterling performances and did a great job representing our club. Well done you guys!
